Coast Road Media LLC was founded in 2009 by Stuart Tenzer, a veteran business affairs executive for over 25 years. Prior to launching Coast Road Media, he was a Senior Vice President at William Morris Endeavor Entertainment following fifteen years with its predecessor, the William Morris Agency. Mr. Tenzer was the lead Business Affairs executive for the agency’s entertainment marketing and corporate consulting practice as well as its digital media group. In this capacity, he worked closely with a diverse group of brands including Purina, Best Buy, Amtrak, HP, the National Football League and General Motors (where he was on the lead team behind the Transformers product integration deal with Paramount and Dreamworks)
Previously, he served as a Senior Vice President in the Television Business Affairs department for thirteen years, overseeing a broad array of entertainment and creative matters on behalf of the clients of the agency including individual talent (performers, writers, directors, etc.), production companies, and numerous consumer brands. In this capacity, he was very actively involved in the international television format business, including the negotiations for such popular properties as The Office, Ugly Betty, Dancing With The Stars, Hell's Kitchen, Weakest Link and others.
From 1986 through 1994, he was the Vice President of Legal and Business Affairs at Stephen J. Cannell Productions, a Hollywood-based television studio (21 Jump Street, A-Team, Hunter, Wiseguy, etc.), where he was responsible for negotiating and drafting talent agreements, network and syndication deals and co-production/distribution arrangements. He also supervised outside counsel with respect to matters relating to labor relations, copyright and trademark and entertainment litigation. In addition, beginning in 1990, Mr. Tenzer was the head of the music department, handling administration of Cannell’s publishing interests as well as all third party music licensing.
Mr. Tenzer began his entertainment career at Festival Productions, Inc. in 1979. Mr. Tenzer was actively involved in the business and creative operations of the Newport Jazz Festival, The Playboy Jazz Festival, and the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and toured extensively with many of the great names in jazz.
He began his legal career as an associate at the law firm of Wilentz, Goldman & Spitzer in New Jersey in 1984.
Mr. Tenzer graduated from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania with a B.S. in Economics in 1979 and was awarded his Juris Doctorate in 1984 from Boston University School of Law.
Mr. Tenzer is a member of both the New Jersey and California Bars and has lectured on entertainment and media law at Harvard Law School, USC, UCLA, Loyola and California Western School of Law. He has spoken on the American entertainment industry at many seminars and conferences globally. He is a member of the California State University Chancellor's Advisory Council on Entertainment and was nominated as "Counsel of the Year" by the Association of Media and Entertainment Counsel in the category of Talent Representation.
